VSG 15240 Description

The Buckingham Buckstrap is a traditional positioning lanyard that uses a Prusik hitch folded midline to create the friction-based adjustment system. It’s been used in tree work for decades, and Buckingham continues to build it with 1/2 in. (13mm) Teufelberger Dacron 16-strand Hi-Vee rope, a time-tested material choice for this application.

The system adjusts from 4 to 7 feet, with two steel snap hooks at the terminations. Adjustment happens at the Prusik hitch, which means the hitch moves to a new position and then bites the rope when loaded. Climbers who learned on this style of lanyard tend to have a strong preference for it, and the Buckstrap is the established name in that category.

Worth understanding before you buy: the adjustment point sits midline on the rope, which means the Prusik can end up on the back side of the tree depending on the tree’s taper and your position. On low-taper trees (utility poles, some straight-growing species), this is rarely an issue. On dramatically tapering trees, a hip-mounted adjustment system may work better for some climbers. Either way, the Buckstrap delivers full security at minimal cost, it’s a proven design backed by Buckingham’s limited lifetime warranty.
