Sometimes when you’re shopping for lawn care tools, it’s because you need one right away. Other times, you can be strategic about planning your shopping. But is there a best time to buy lawn care tools? And is it different for residential tools compared to commercial tools?
When You Need Them
Sometimes, you don’t have the luxury of planning purchases ahead of time. If you’re a homeowner and your only lawnmower breaks in the middle of summer, you’ll need to get it repaired or buy a new one before the grass takes over the yard.
The same goes for professionals during the growing season. You might have multiple mowers, trimmers, edgers, etc., but if one of them goes out during the busy season you’ll probably need to replace it in order to keep up with all the work you need to get done.
But what if you can plan ahead? Is there a time of the year that typically gets you the best deals and works around the seasonal lawn care cycles?
End of the Season
One of the best times of the year to buy equipment is near the end of the season, in November and December. Sometimes, dealers and stores run good Black Friday sales on lawn equipment. This is also the time of year when dealers often want to move old inventory out to make room for new equipment in the spring.
Commercial lawn care companies often find that it works best to replace equipment at the end of the season. Commercial warranties typically only last a couple of years, and replacing equipment regularly helps avoid delays from repairing broken equipment during the busy season.
Beginning of the Season
Another good time to buy new lawn equipment is the beginning of the year. You won’t have to store it over the winter and can start using it right away.
Demand for lawn equipment is often high in the spring. Some brands and dealers offer attractive financing deals or add-ons to make purchasing at the beginning of the year more attractive.
During a Sale
There are several times during the year that you’re likely to see sales on lawn care equipment. Memorial Day, Independence Day, Father’s Day, Black Friday, and Spring Black Friday are all great times to snag a deal, especially on residential equipment.
When you’re shopping, keep in mind that just because something is on a huge discount doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best deal. You’ll still want to read reviews and choose a brand that’ll last, even if it means paying a little more or going to a dealer instead of a big box store.
