Money’s a bit tight for many of us this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make some impressive improvements to your front landscaping. Upping your home’s curb appeal doesn’t have to break the bank. And with so many of us still working from home, we might even have some extra time to put into yard care right now.
Maintain What You Have
It’s easy to focus on adding things to the landscape when we think of improving curb appeal. But maintaining what you have is also a great way to make the lawn and landscape look nice. Keeping up with the lawn mowing, weeding, and plant trimming will help keep your landscape looking fantastic.
Edge Gardens and Walkways
Edging is one of the simplest ways to improve the look of your front landscape. Creating a crisp, clean edge along gardens and walkways instantly improves the look of your home. You can use a string-line trimmer for edging if you like, though a dedicated edger will give you a more professional look.
Mulch
If you’re working with an enormous garden, then mulching can get pretty expensive. For smaller gardens, though, buying a few bags of mulch can really improve the look of the garden. Even just putting a ring of much around your trees is a good way to make the entire yard look nicer. Plus, mulch helps keep weeds down and holds moisture in the soil so you don’t have to water as much.
Create A Path
Gravel and/or stepping stones are an economical way to create a pathway through your yard. Paths add visual interest while also providing a place to walk through your garden. A few pavers placed as stepping stones with low-growing plants or gravel between them can give you a look similar to a more expensive paved path without the high price tag.
Install Lights
Lighting is often recommended as a way to quickly increase curb appeal and keep your house safer at night. Outdoor lighting systems can become quite elaborate but there are plenty of inexpensive options as well, including solar-powered landscape lights that won’t increase your electric bill.
Add Some Flowers
A little color can go a long way toward making your landscape pop. Annual flowers like celosia, cosmos, moss rose, petunias, salvia, sunflowers, and zinnias thrive throughout the summer even if it’s hot and dry. They’ll work great along the edges of a flower bed or grown in containers.
